Meet Cindy

Professional Background

Cindy has earned the trust of voters in House District 18, winning every election since 2017. She previously served three terms in the early 2000s before narrowly losing her seat in 2010.

After retiring from her full-time career, Cindy returned to public service and won reelection in 2016. She and her fellow Democrats successfully repaired the fiscal disaster caused by the failed “Kansas Experiment” of the Brownback era and funded Kansas public schools appropriately.

Cindy currently serves as the ranking minority member on the Insurance Committee. She also serves on the Child Welfare and Foster Care, Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications, and Legislative Modernization committees, and is a member of the Joint Committee on Pensions, Investments and Benefits.

Before retiring, Cindy spent most of her career as a medical administrator for a multi-specialty group with offices in Wyandotte and Johnson counties. She worked for Discover Dental managing sedation patients and spent nine years working in Shawnee Mission schools while raising her children.

Family

Cindy has been married to her husband, Jim, for more than 55 years. Jim is a retired airline pilot and former Shawnee City Council member who remains active in the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce.

Their four children all graduated from the Shawnee Mission School District. Samantha is an OB/GYN and wellness physician in Lawrence. Jamie is a financial analyst with Coty and lives in Amsterdam. Kim works for a retirement investment firm and lives in Shawnee. Justin is a sales representative for a beverage distributor in Estes Park, Colorado.

Cindy and Jim have four grandsons and one great-grandson, all living nearby. Cindy treasures time with her family, whether it’s a backyard cookout or simply being together.
